Our Policies

We want every experience to be smooth and stress-free for you and your dog. Please take a moment to review our policies before booking.

Reservations & Scheduling

  • All services must be scheduled in advance. We recommend booking at least 48 hours ahead to ensure availability.

  • A meet & greet is required before the first booking. This allows us to get to know your dog and discuss any special needs.

  • Holiday and peak-season bookings (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Spring Break, summer) should be made as early as possible — these fill up quickly.

  • We reserve the right to decline service for dogs that display aggressive behavior toward people or other animals.

Cancellations & Refunds

  • Cancellations made 48 hours or more before the scheduled service will receive a full refund or credit.

  • Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the scheduled service may be subject to a cancellation fee.

  • Holiday bookings require 7 days notice for a full refund. Cancellations within 7 days of a holiday booking will forfeit the deposit.

  • No-shows (failure to cancel and failure to be present) will be charged the full service fee.

  • We understand emergencies happen — please contact us as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate.

Health & Vaccinations

  • All dogs must be current on Rabies, Distemper/Parvo (DHPP), and Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccinations. Proof may be requested.

  • Dogs must be on a regular flea and tick prevention program. We reserve the right to refuse service to dogs showing signs of infestation.

  • Dogs showing signs of illness (vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, contagious conditions) will not be accepted for boarding or group services.

  • If your dog becomes ill during a stay, we will contact you immediately. Emergency veterinary care will be sought if necessary, and costs are the responsibility of the owner.

  • Please inform us of any known medical conditions, allergies, or medications before your booking.

Feeding & Supplies

  • Please provide your dog's own food in clearly labeled, pre-portioned bags or containers. We feed according to your instructions.

  • We do not recommend changing your dog's diet while in our care, as this can cause digestive upset.

  • Please bring any medications, supplements, or special treats your dog requires, along with clear instructions.

  • For boarding, please bring your dog's bed, blanket, or a familiar item from home to help them feel comfortable.

  • We provide fresh water at all times. Please let us know if your dog has any specific water preferences or restrictions.

Liability & Emergency Care

  • Howie's Hounds will provide care to the best of our ability, but cannot be held liable for illness, injury, or death of a pet in our care that results from circumstances beyond our control.

  • By booking our services, you authorize us to seek emergency veterinary care for your pet if we are unable to reach you. All costs incurred are the responsibility of the owner.

  • Please provide the name and contact information of your preferred veterinarian at the time of booking.

  • We are not responsible for damage to your home or belongings during in-home pet sitting beyond normal wear and tear.

  • Owners are responsible for any injuries caused by their dog to our staff, other animals, or third parties.

Payment

  • Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made in advance.

  • We accept cash, check, and major credit cards.

  • A deposit may be required for holiday bookings or extended boarding stays.

  • Returned checks are subject to a $35 returned check fee.

  • Rates are subject to change. Current rates will always be communicated clearly before booking.
